"The Triumph of the Castanets"

The original work is the Printer " Piferrer Widow " in Barcelona , 1786. Castilian version circulated worldwide.

With an unusual satirical sense , Alejandro Moya , pseudonym of Juan Fernández de Rojas (1750-1819) , mimics and parodies in this work the scientific and philosophical treatises in vogue at the time of the Enlightenment. On this trip where they run through the likes of Locke or Voltaire , the author presents the multiple evils sarcastically in Crotalópolis , name behind which hides the Madrid of the time.

Inundated with intelligent humor and lively, Fernández de Rojas came to dedicate the work to Augustine Florencio Francisco , author of title Crotalogía or Science of the castanets , one of the many pseudonyms he used the author throughout his literary career .
In this book, the castanets are a symbol to tell more . The use of this percussion instrument , for the account of social criticism , implies recognition of identity rooted in Spanish that the castanets have reached, and kept throughout the years.
